Festen tour includes Richmond

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

IT HAS now been confirmed that Festen will tour the UK - from February 3 to May 13, 2006 - prior to its Broadway premiere. It can be seen at Richmond Theatre from April 24 - 29, 2006.

Previously Posted: Festen is scheduled to open at the West End's Lyric Theatre on September 23, 2004 - previews from September 15 - following its transfer from north London's Almeida Theatre.

An English-language stage version of the 1998 Danish film, Festen centres upon a dark family secret, revealed by patriarch, Helge Klingenfelt, during his 60th birthday celebrations at a magnificent old hotel in the Danish countryside.

Among those present are his loyal wife, Else; his sons, Christian and Michael, and his daughter, Helene.

Replacing original cast members Johnny Lee Miller and Tom Hardy, as Christian and Michael, will be Luke Mably, previously seen in Colour Me Kubrick, The Prince and Me and 28 Days Later and Rory Kinnear, whose stage credits include The Taming of the Shrew and The Tamer Tamed, both for the RSC, as well as Hamlet at the Old Vic.

Also new to the cast will be Stephen Moore, as Helge, and Andrew Frame, as Kim.

Other players remain unchanged, with Jane Asher as Else, Sam Beazley as the Grandfather, Sam Cox as Poul, Andrew Maud as Lars, Ruth Millar as Pia, Lisa Palfrey as Mette, Patrick Robinson as Gbatokai, Claire Rushbrook as Helene and Michael Thomas as Helmut.

Festen will be directed by Rufus Norris, whose previous work includes Peribanez, Sleeping Beauty and Afore Night Come and will be produced, in the West End, by Marla Rubin and Bill Kenwright.

Festen, the multi award-winning film, was written by Thomas Vinterberg (who also directed) and Mogens Rukov.

Festen is booking now, until January 15, 2005.
