IT HAS now been confirmed that Festen will tour
the UK - from February 3 to May 13, 2006 - prior to its Broadway
premiere. It can be seen at Richmond Theatre from April 24 - 29,
2006.
Previously Posted: Festen is scheduled to open
at the West End's Lyric Theatre on September 23, 2004 - previews
from September 15 - following its transfer from north London's
Almeida Theatre.
An English-language stage version of the 1998 Danish film, Festen
centres upon a dark family secret, revealed by patriarch, Helge
Klingenfelt, during his 60th birthday celebrations at a magnificent
old hotel in the Danish countryside.
Among those present are his loyal wife, Else; his sons, Christian
and Michael, and his daughter, Helene.

Replacing original cast members Johnny
Lee Miller and Tom Hardy, as Christian and Michael, will be Luke
Mably, previously seen in Colour Me Kubrick, The
Prince and Me and 28
Days Later and Rory Kinnear, whose stage credits include
The Taming of the Shrew and The Tamer Tamed, both
for the RSC, as well as Hamlet at the Old Vic.
Also new to the cast will be Stephen Moore, as Helge, and Andrew
Frame, as Kim.
Other players remain unchanged, with Jane Asher as Else, Sam
Beazley as the Grandfather, Sam Cox as Poul, Andrew Maud as Lars,
Ruth Millar as Pia, Lisa Palfrey as Mette, Patrick Robinson as
Gbatokai, Claire Rushbrook as Helene and Michael Thomas as Helmut.
Festen will be directed by Rufus Norris, whose previous
work includes Peribanez, Sleeping Beauty and Afore
Night Come and will be produced, in the West End, by Marla
Rubin and Bill Kenwright.
Festen, the multi award-winning film, was written by
Thomas Vinterberg (who also directed) and Mogens Rukov.
Festen is booking now, until January 15, 2005.
