Most Anticipated Gangster Movies Of 2019

WHEN it comes to movies, there’s nothing quite like gangster films. Gangster movies have everything, from a great storyline through to some of the most memorable scenes as well as actors in the business.
This is from gangsters playing cards in movies like Goodfellas and Casino, to the good guys taking on the bad guys like James Bond using his suave blackjack strategy to win cash from drug lord Franz Sanchez in Licence To Kill.
Furthermore, the gangster genre is also steeped in history and is therefore of great interest to many in that respect. With a good nine months of 2019 remaining, we’ve picked out some of the most anticipated gangster flicks of the year.
The Irishman
The Irishman is arguably the most eagerly anticipated gangster movie of 2019 and it’s easy to see why. The Irishman has some of the biggest names in movie, and gangster movie, history involved with Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci on the star-studded list.
The film, which will be released on Netflix, is based on a book by Charles Brandt titled I Heard You Paint Houses. The book, and now the film, tells the story of labor union official Frank Sheeran who has links to the mob.
He was involved in the murder of another American labor union leader called Jimmy Hoffa, and The Irishman is him recalling his involvement and the events that unfolded along the way.
Welcome To Acapulco
Welcome to Acapulco is a recently released gangster flick which is directed by Guillermo Ivan.
It stars the likes of William Baldwin, Michael Madsen and Bradley Gregg, so it does have appeal where the line-up is concerned. Welcome to Acapulco tells the story of a video game designer called Matt Booth, who is looking to pretty much save his career with a huge reveal at the upcoming Video Game Awards in New Mexico.
However, things take a turn for the worst after he has too much to drink, with him landing in Mexico, rather than Mexico City. He’s then on the run from serious people having been believed to have smuggled a package through customs.
Cold Pursuit
Cold Pursuit was another highly anticipated gangster movie release, especially as Liam Neeson, a man made for gangster flicks, players the lead role. Directed by Hans Petter Moland on his Hollywood debut and written by Frank Baldwin, Cold Pursuit tells the story of Nelson ‘Nels’ Coxman, who lives a quiet life until the death of his son.
After spiralling into depression, Coxman discovers his son was murdered by a drug cartel and turns vigilante.
Coxman is out for revenge and starts by murdering three members of the cartel. This sees a gang war break out, which is where the real action begins.
As you can see, 2019 really is the year for some superb gangster movies, which is exciting for fans of the genre. Most people are no doubt eagerly anticipating the release of The Irishman thanks to its star-studded cast, but both Welcome to Acapulco and Cold Pursuit are fantastic gangster and crime movies in their own right, with some big names from the acting world involved.
