LIEV Schreiber series Ray Donovan has been cancelled.

The show recently completed its seventh season with a cliffhanger ending. But the premium cable network has decided to pull the plug rather than allow things to play out for an eighth run with any sense of closure.

In a statement, Showtime said: “After seven incredible seasons, Ray Donovan has concluded its run on Showtime. We are proud that the series ended amid such strong viewership and on such a powerful note.

“Our deepest thanks go to Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight, showrunner David Hollander and the entire cast and crew, past and present, for their dedicated work.”

For his part, Schreiber had been trying to avoid the cancellation by using his Instagram feed to urge viewers to let Showtime and parent company CBS know that they wanted an eighth season of the series.

“Truth is, it’s in the network’s hands,” he wrote last month, mere days before the season seven finale. But his attempts proved futile despite pleas from desperate fans who have suffered with the main characters through seven seasons of hardship in the hope of finding some kind of resolution.

Ray Donovan‘s departure comes at the same time as Showtime bids farewell to another of its most-watched original series, Shameless, which is due to end its run as well with one more season.
