Above The Stag Theatre plans move to larger venue
Theatre news
ABOVE The Stag Theatre has submitted a change of use planning application to Lambeth Council for two interconnecting railway arches in Vauxhall.
It is proposed that the premises, located at 72 and 73 Goding Street, SE11 5AW will incorporate a 120 seat main house and a 60 seat studio space as well as two rehearsal rooms, gallery space and a café/bar.
Above The Stag Theatre moved to its current location on Miles Street in 2013 following the demolition of its original home, The Stag pub in Victoria.
Artistic director Peter Bull said: “in the three years we have been in Miles Street we have outgrown the space. Moving to a larger premises will allow us to expand our programme and take more creative risks. As a full-time producing house, we have been overwhelmed by the support we have received, with every production in the past twelve months having sold out its entire run.”
Public consultation closes on December 30, and if successful, a major fit out of the space will commence in January with a planned opening date in summer 2017.
Above The Stag Theatre is an award-winning theatre in Vauxhall, London with a focus on producing LGBT+-themed theatre including new writing, musicals and revivals. It is the only full-time professional LGBT+ theatre in the UK.
