Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
BREAKFAST at Tiffany’s, the classic tale of Holly Golightly written by Truman Capote and so memorably portrayed by Audrey Hepburn in the iconic 1961 film, is being given a new lease of life as a stage play with music.
In what is described as a sparkling, sophisticated production starring the multi award-winning Pixie Lott as Holly, it runs at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from June 29 to September 17, 2016.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s is adapted by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony and Olivier Award-winning playwright Richard Greenberg and directed by Nikolai Foster.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s is set in 1943 in New York City, where William ‘Fred’ Parsons, a young writer from Louisiana, meets Miss Holly Golightly, a charming, vivacious and utterly elusive good-time girl.
Everyone falls in love with Holly, including William – but he is poor, and Holly needs rich. Will she marry Rusty, playboy millionaire? Or José, the future president of Brazil? As war rages in Europe, Holly begins to fall in love with William – and then her past catches up with her…
The production features memorable songs from the era.
In 2009, Sean Mathias directed Anna Friel as Holly in Samuel Adamson’s stage adaptation of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, also at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
This new production of Breakfast at Tiffany’s will begin performances at the Curve Theatre, Leicester on March 3, 2016, before embarking on a UK and Ireland Tour.
McQueen continues at the Theatre Royal Haymarket until November 7, 2015.
