Charles Court Opera return to the King’s Head Theatre with Buttons: A Cinderella Story
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
CHARLES Court Opera are returning to the King’s Head Theatre with their 12th boutique pantomime. A brand new production of one of the company’s greatest hits, Buttons: A Cinderella Story, it runs from Friday, November 23, 2018 to Saturday, January 5, 2019.
A co-production with the King’s Head Theatre, Buttons takes Cinderella, one of the best-loved fairytales of all time, and turns it on its pretty little head.
From a villainous Prince to a Fairy Godfather, this ‘delicious reimagining’ is given extra dashes of Christmas spice. With more double entendres than you can shake your tutu at, Charles Court Opera make their twisted version of the story even more outrageous.
According to press material, you can prepare for a cheeky concoction of toe-tapping musical numbers, side-splitting puns and jaw-dropping magic that will fill you with Christmas cheer into the New Year and beyond.
The cast includes John Savournin as a ludicrously tall Dame and Matthew Kellett as the loveable Buttons, with Eleanor Sanderson-Nash, Jennie Jacobs, Catrine Kirkman and Emily Cairns.
From Adult Only performances through to Children’s Matinees, Charles Court Opera’s biggest and best pantomime yet is perfect for families, couples, groups of friends and office parties.
John Savournin said: “We’ve taken the story of Cinderella as we know it and turned it completely on it’s head, filling it with cheeky surprises and juicy twists in an original take on the fairytale, which places Buttons at its centre.”
Buttons is also directed by John Savournin, with musical direction by David Eaton, set design by Louie Whitemore, costume design by Mia Wallden and lighting design by Nicholas Holdridge.
