Theatre news
THE NEW production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg’s Miss Saigon has extended its run for the last time. The show, which opened at the Prince Edward Theatre in May 2014, is now booking until February 27, 2016, when it will close in the West End.
Speaking about his decision, Producer Cameron Mackintosh said:
“I’m delighted to announce a final extension of my hugely successful new production of Miss Saigon at the Prince Edward Theatre. This record-breaking and award-winning production is already repeating its success in Japan and Korea and is planned to open in Germany, Australia and Broadway in the next two years.
“Our original stars Eva Noblezada and Jon Jon Briones continue to lead our wonderful international cast that has made this epic love story one of the greatest contemporary musicals of all time.”
As well as Eva Noblezada (as Kim) and Jon Jon Briones (The Engineer), the cast also currently features Chris Peluso (Chris), Siobhan Dillon (Elllen), Hugh Maynard (John), Sangwoong Jo (Thuy) and Natalie Mendoza (Gigi).
Miss Saigon is based on Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly but with the setting relocated to Saigon during the Vietnam War, and tells of a doomed love affair between Chris, an American GI and Kim, a Vietnamese bar girl.
