Romeo and Juliet - Jack Studio Theatre
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
PRESENTED by CandleFire Theatre Company, Joshua Jewkes’ adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet runs at the Jack Studio Theatre from Tuesday, July 14 to Saturday, August 1, 2015.
These violent delights have violent ends.
Two households and an ancient grudge have made Verona brutal and violent. But when forbidden love emerges through the bloodshed, can the young lovers hope to ascend the feud? Or will tragedy swallow them up?
By creating a unique adaptation of the text, and mixing modern and medieval, emerging theatre company CandleFire aim to challenge the pre-conceptions and traditional telling of Shakespeare’s most famous love story. This is Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet – but not necessarily in the right order.
Directed by Jaclyn Bradley, the cast includes Rob Fellman (as Romeo), Leah Lawry-Johns (Juliet), Turan Duncan (Mercutio), David Gurney (Tybalt), Serena Chloe Gardner (Nurse), Carly Jukes (Capulet), Jonathon Curry (Friar Lawrence), Martin Sales (Benvolio) and Joshua Jewkes (Balthasar). The role of Paris has still to be announced.
Produced by Leah Lawry-Johns, Romeo and Juliet has sound and lighting design by Becky Lewis and costume design and make-up by Beth Gibbs.
Romeo and Juliet is suitable for ages 14+.
