Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

FOLLOWING her acclaimed performance in the Watermill’s 2014 production of Calamity Jane, Jodie Prenger will star in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black’s classic musical, Tell Me On A Sunday.

A touring production, it will visit Richmond Theatre (March 13) and New Wimbledon Theatre (April 18, 2016).

Tell Me On A Sunday charts the romantic misadventures of a young English girl in New York in the heady days of the 1980’s. Brimming with optimism, she seeks success and love. But as she weaves her way through the maze of the city and her own anxieties, frustrations and heartaches she begins to wonder whether she’s been looking for love in all the wrong places.

The score of this iconic musical features Unexpected Song, the chart-topping Take That Look Off Your Face and title track, Tell Me on A Sunday.

Originally conceived for television, Tell Me On A Sunday has been performed by many legendary musical theatre stars including Marti Webb and Sarah Brightman. This new 2016 production, directed by Paul Foster, includes an intimate post-show chat with Jodie Prenger about life, love and playing the role of Emma.

Prenger rose to fame as a contestant on I’d Do Anything, a reality TV show in which she won the role of Nancy in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 2009 revival of the musical Oliver!. As well as Calamity Jane, she has subsequently appeared in productions such as Spamalot (as Lady of the Lake) and One Man, Two Guvnors (Dolly).

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s numerous awards include seven Tonys, three Grammys, seven Oliviers, a Golden Globe, an Oscar, two Emmys and the Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre. Don Black is an Oscar winning lyrist (Born Free) and penned numerous James Bond theme tunes, and chart hits such as Michael Jackson’s Ben and Lulu’s To Sir With Love.

As well as Richmond and Wimbledon, the tour will visit Kings Lynn, Stoke-on-Trent, Sunderland, Aylesbury, York, Southport, Birmingham, Oxford, Bristol, Liverpool and Bromley.
