The Commitments to complete West End run on November 1
Theatre news
WEST End musical The Commitments is to close on Sunday, November 1, 2015, after a successful run at the Palace Theatre. The London run will be followed by an extensive 2017 UK and Ireland tour, further details of which will be announced soon.
Since opening to rave reviews on October 8, 2013, The Commitments – adapted for the stage by Booker Prize-winning Roddy Doyle from his original best-selling novel – has played more than 1000 shows, receiving a rousing standing ovation for each performance.
Directed by the award-winning Jamie Lloyd, the show is bursting with classic soul songs such as I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Knock On Wood, Try A Little Tenderness and Mustang Sally.
Producer Phil McIntyre said: “We’ve had a great run at the Palace Theatre and we now look forward to bringing the people’s musical to people across the UK and Ireland with our 2017 tour.”
The Commitments is the story of Jimmy Rabbitte, a young working class music fan, who shapes an unlikely bunch of amateur musicians into an amazing live act, the finest soul band Dublin has ever produced.
