Story by: Jack Foley
HAVING impressed director, Peter Jackson, with his memorable
performance as Gollum, in The
Lord of the Rings trilogy, British actor, Andy Serkis, will
be working with the New Zealand-born film-maker again, by helping
to create the title character of King Kong.
Like Gollum, the ape in the blockbuster remake will be completely
computer-generated, but Serkis acting will be used to bring
it to life, courtesy of the latest motion picture technology.
In addition, the 40-year-old star also been cast in the human
role of Lumpy the cook, and will appear alongside the films
main stars, Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody.

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Jackson teased that
it will be weird seeing Serkis out of his Gollum gimp suit
and hoped they could both make the adjustment - although he looked
forward to the prospect of filming extended drama sequences together.
But the director went on to dismiss suggestions that Serkis
help would humanise King Kong, insisting that he has no intention
of softening the beast.
"The power of the story lies in the fact that this is a
savage beast from a hostile environment, and we don't intend to
compromise that," he maintained.
King Kong is scheduled to begin shooting, in New Zealand, in
August, and is scheduled for a release in December 2005.
It will reunite Jackson with several of the team who helped turn
the Lord of the Rings into such a multi-Scar-winning success,
including co-writers, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, composer,
Howard Shore and cinematographer, Andrew Lesnie.
The film is an eagerly-anticipated remake of the 1933 monster
classic, the star of which was recently voted to be the most terrifying
movie monster of all time.
