The Great Spitalfields Pancake Race
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
THE ANNUAL Great Spitalfields Pancake Race takes place on Shrove Tuesday which, this year, falls on February 12, 2013.
The race will take place along Dray Walk at The Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane. To enter, get together a team of four people suitable dressed up (or down!) and bring along your own frying pan – pancakes will be provided.
Heats start at 12.30pm, followed by the finals and prize giving. The winners will receive a beautifully engraved frying pan and there will be prizes for the runners up, the best behaved team and the best dressed team donated by Cath Kidston.
Prizes include Cath Kidston baking essentials – aprons, oven gloves, mixing bowls, tea towels and utensils.
Music by the Lost Marbles String Band and clowns provided by the E Team will all lend to the atmosphere of this highly entertaining, eccentric occasion.
Hot Pancakes will be provided by Csaba’s Hungarian Creperie.
The event is organised by Alternative Arts in aid of the London Air Ambulance (registered charity number 801013), so try to get yourself sponsored or take along a donation on the day.
The Great Spitalfields Pancake Race is supported by Cath Kidston, Old Truman Brewery, Alternative Arts and YELP.
