Brad Pitt and Edward Norton reunite for remake
Story by Jack Foley
BRAD Pitt is to reunite with Fight Club co-star Edward Norton for the film version of hit BBC drama State of Play, it has been confirmed.
Industry paper Variety stated that Norton will play a US congressman whose political career is threatened by the suspicious death of his mistress. Pitt will play the investigative journalist who follows the case.
The film will be directed by Kevin Macdonald, whose last film The Last King Of Scotland earned Forest Whitaker an Oscar.
The original BBC version was a critical and commercial success when it aired in 2003 and featured Life on Mars star John Simm in the Pitt role and David Morrissey as the politician.
The film will be based on Paul Abbott’s original script and has been adapted for the big screen by Matthew Michael Carnahan, who wrote the forthcoming Robert Redford film Lions For Lambs, starring Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep, as well as The Kingdom, starring Jamie Foxx and Chris Cooper.
Pitt and Norton last worked together on David Fincher’s classic movie Fight Club in 1999.
Filming is scheduled to begin in November once Norton, 38, has completed work on the latest Incredible Hulk adaptation (due for release next Summer).
Pitt, meanwhile, is currently basking in the glory of the critical acclaim he has received for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. The actor was recently named best actor at the Venice Film Festival and is among the favourites to land the same prize at Toronto.
