Brittany Murphy death caused by pneumonia

Brittany Murphy

Story by Jack Foley

BRITTANY Murphy died from pneumonia, a Los Angeles coroner has ruled – but tragically could have survived if she’d got to a doctor in time.

According to coroner’s spokesman Craig Harvey iron-deficiency anaemia and “multiple drug intoxication” were also secondary factors in her death.

However, the drugs were all prescription medicines and there was no evidence of wrong-doing. He therefore ruled the death as accidental.

Further details of the circumstances surrounding Murphy’s death will be revealed in two weeks in a complete report.

The actress, 32, died in December after collapsing at her Los Angeles home. She was pronounced dead in hospital.

Iron deficiency anemia is the most common type of anemia and can occur when a person’s diet contains an insufficent amount of iron.

Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack, and mother, Sharon Murphy, confirmed that Murphy had been experiencing flu-like symptoms in the days before she died.

Mr Monjack also revealed that she had been taking over-the-counter remedies for her ailments.

Murphy was best known for her roles in Clueless, Sin City and 8 Mile. Her final film role was in Sylvester Stallone’s forthcoming action flick The Expendables, which is due for release later this year.
