The Peddler: Short Film Competition semi-finalists revealed
Story by Jack Foley
INDEPENDENT distributor Network Releasing is delighted to announce the shortlist of The Peddler Short Film Competition, to be held at the Riverside in Hammersmith.
Each of the six runners-up are bracing themselves to find out who has won the contest.
Each candidate will have their work screened at the Hammersmith cinema before acclaimed documentary The Peddler opens on July 15, 2011, with a winner and two runners-up having their work included on the UK DVD release of The Peddler in September 2011.
Judged by Time Out film critic Tom Huddleston, director of The Peddler Eduardo De Le Serna and Network’s Releasing’s Managing Director, Tim Beddows, the six lucky film-makers have all been invited to the Riverside to see their film screened before the winner is announced.
The shortlist is as follows:
Side by Side by Jamie Hooper (London, Wandsworth)
The Bedlamites by Shyla Lee (Keighley, West Yorkshire)
The Big Sleep by Kat Magrowitz (London, Greenwich)
The Reward by Lucy Patrick Ward (London, Ealing)
A Winter’s Mirage by Reza-John Vedadi (London, Maida Vale)
Kyle by Amy Hill (Telford, Shropshire)
The work of each of the runners-up will also feature on the DVD of The Peddler, available to own on September 26, 2011.
Film consultant for BFI and university lecturer in the cinematic arts, Professor Maria Delgado, will be present to hand out the awards.
About The Peddler:
Daniel Burmeister is the most prolific filmmaker you’ve never heard of. Armed with a camera and enough charm to persuade entire towns to join in on his dreams, this tireless, jolly DIY movie veteran rolls in his beat up old car from one backwater Argentine town to another.
There, in exchange for room and board, he turns out a feature film in 30 days, transforming these sleepy villages into bustling film sets and the bored populace into avid performers.
Members of the UK public were given the chance to see their own short film in cinemas and on DVD in the spirit of The Peddler.
Like Daniel Burmeister, members of the UK public had to submit their films in 30 days! Described as, “A beautiful film” (Time Out), “A gem” (Evening Standard) and “Be Kind Rewind only for real” (Eyeforfilm.co.uk), The Peddler is one of the most remarkable films anyone is likely to see this year.
