McFly announce Up Close... But This Time It's Personal tour

McFly

Story by Jack Foley

FOLLOWING their sould out arena tour in November 2008, McFly have announced a string of intimate gigs this April and May 2009.

The tour will take the boys to theatre-sized venues in all corners of the country, including stops at the Manchester Apollo, Edinburgh Corn Exchange and London’s HMV Apollo in Hammersmith.

American Idol runner-up David Archuleta is the special guest on all dates.

Tickets for the shows will go on sale at 9am on Saturday, February 28.

Well accustomed to huge audiences in arenas around the world, McFly savour the rare opportunity to thank their most loyal fans at smaller shows.

In 2006, the boys embarked on their Up Close and Personal theatre tour, which saw dates selling out in less than two hours. The shows proved so enjoyable for the band and their fans that a sequel was only a matter of time.

The tour dates are (all April and May 2009):

April
21 – Wolverhampton Civic
22 – Blackpool Opera House
24 – Edinburgh Corn Exchange
25 – Glasgow Clyde Auditorium
26 – Newcastle City Hall
29 – Portsmouth Guildhall

May
1 – Hammersmith Apollo
2 – Southend Cliffs Pavillion
3 – Ipswich Regent
5 – Croydon Fairfield Hall
6 – Oxford New Theatre
8 – Manchester Apollo
9 – Leicester De Montford Hall

2008 was another huge year for McFly. Taking full control of their creative output, the boys launched independent label Super Records and released Radio: ACTIVE, their first studio album in two years.

The record was given away exclusively with the Mail On Sunday, reaching over 2.4 million homes and prompting a 300,000 rise in circulation. The album spawned three smash hit singles and a nationwide arena tour.
