Product Medea 4.0 - The Cock Tavern Theatre

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

MARVELLOUS World Wide is presenting Product Medea 4.0, a brutal, entertaining and ironic spin on the classic tale, at The Cock Tavern Theatre – from June 2 to June 20, 2009.

The character of Medea is transported from ancient myth into a modern corporate world where her tragedy is repackaged by a marketing company and sold to the highest bidder.

Medea takes part in this commercial event believing she will be able to deliver her own testimony. However, the opportunistic company spins her tragedy for mass entertainment and maximum gain.

Maja Milatovic–Ovadia directs a cast that includes Jo Faith, Victoria Grove, Ishai Jacob, Konstantinos Kavakiotis, Laura Pradelska, Nikki Squire and Alexandra Thoros.

Written by Slovenian playwright Saša Rakef, Medea’s lines are taken from the original text. Previous versions have been presented across Europe at festivals in Serbia, Slovenia and Bosnia. In June 2008, Medea Blossoming (Medea Inc. v1.0) was awarded the Grand Prix Branislav B. Cubrilovic award at the International Multimedia Festival in Serbia.

Rakef’s other work includes Home, No Pass, Smelling Yellow and War Stories.

Each performance will be streamed over the internet in real time and the impact of the show will be extended through a mixture of factual and fictional web-based content on questions of tragedy, money, victimisation and the rise of opportunist ethics.

Product Medea 4.0 is designed by Tereza Merlini, with lighting design by Roland Glasser, costume design by Ramon Pons Casadevall and choreography by Verana Meneses. The composer is James Palmer.

Tickets: £10, £7 concessions, group bookings (four or more) £8.

Time: Tuesday to Saturday at 7.30pm.

Performance length: 1 hour 15 minutes.
