Thriller Live extends and Maria Lawson joins cast
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
THRILLER Live has once again extended its booking period at the Lyric Theatre, this time by four months – until January 3, 2010. Since it opened on January 21, 2009, it has become the highest weekly grossing show in the history of the Lyric Theatre.
Thriller Live celebrates the career of Michael Jackson and features the hits I Want You Back, I’ll Be There, Show You the Way to Go, Can You Feel It, Rock with You, She’s Out of My Life, Thriller, Beat It, Ben, ABC, Man in the Mirror, Dirty Diana, Billie Jean, Earth Song and many more.
The cast now includes X Factor finalist Maria Lawson, whose elimination in 2005 was a shock for bookmakers who had her as a 66/1 outsider to leave the programme. During the early rounds of the competition, she sang Michael Jackson’s The Way You Make Me Feel, which is one of her songs in Thriller – Live.
In 2006, she signed to Sony BMG and recorded her debut, self titled album with a song written especially for her by Diane Warren. It charted in the top 40 and led to a Top 20 single. Her second album, Emotional Rollercoaster, is due out later this year. Away from music, Lawson became the model for lingerie company Bravissimo and wrote Life Starts Now, a book about her experiences.
Thriller Live is presented by Paul Walden and Derek Nicol for Flying Music
in association with Adrian Grant for Key Concerts.
NB: Tickets for the extra dates go on sale on Monday, May 4, 2009.
