To W.H. - The Hobgoblin
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
IF YOU haven’t already seen it, To W.H. returns to The Hobgoblin from May 2 to May 5, and again from May 16 to May 19, 2006.
Stuart Draper’s play, the first to tackle the subject, dramatises the fateful relationship between the 17-year-old William Herbert (the eponymous W.H.) and the 32-year-old Shakespeare – from their meeting in 1597 through to the latter’s death in Stratford.
To W.H. combines the soul and passion of Shakespeare’s sonnets (the majority of which were written to a Mr W.H.) with the exuberance and bawdiness that characterise his most exciting comedies.
The result is described as “a rollercoaster, hi-energy romp through the Bard’s most intimate secrets.”
To W.H. stars Stuart Draper and Luke Leeves; and is directed by Anton Krause.
Tickets: £10, £8 concessions
