All Mouth - Menier Chocolate Factory

Christopher Benjamin in Foyle's War

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

A NEW play by husband-and-wife writing team Jonathan Lewis and Miranda Foster, their first in 12 years, All Mouth, will run for a limited season – from May 31 (previews from May 23) to July 7, 2007 – at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

Set in the heart of Soho, a group of actors prepare to strike in order to protect their livelihoods. They include Digby who’s agonising over which eight records to take for his desert island discs; Greg who can’t take the pressure of being down to the last two for a new role in EastEnders; Mel who refuses to speak to her ex; and Paddy who pretends to be a banker.

The question is: will anyone take striking actors seriously?

Lewis will direct a cast that includes Christopher Benjamin (A Voyage Round My Father on stage; Heartbeat, Judge John Deed, Foyle’s War on TV) as Digby; Simon Chandler (Judge John Deed) as Paddy; and Caroline Harker (Entertaining Angels on stage; A Touch of Frost, Auf Wiedersehen Pet on TV).

As well as writing – their last play, Our Boys, was an award-winning hit – Lewis and Foster are both actors. Lewis was last seen in the West End in A Few Good Men alongside Rob Lowe and John Barrowman. And on television, he has enjoyed long stints in London’s Burning, Coronation Street and Soldier, Soldier. His other directing credits include Breakfast with Jonny Wilkinson which premiered at the Menier Chocolate Factory in April 2006.

Total Eclipse starring Daniel Evans is currently playing at The Menier Chocolate Factory.
