Casting news

AWARD-winning Jenna Russell will join Kit Harington in the cast of Jamie Lloyd’s production of Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus. Originally booking at the Duke of York’s Theatre from April 9 to June 4, it will now continue until June 25, 2016.

Russell, who most recently appeared in the European première of Grey Gardens at Southwark Playhouse and the UK premiere of Urinetown The Musical at St James Theatre and in the West End, will play the demon Mephistopheles, a role usually played by a male.

The cast also includes Jade Anouka (Chef, Hamlet), Tom Edden (One Man, Two Guvnors, Les Miserables), Danielle Flett (Hatched ‘n’ Dispatched) Brian Gilligan (The Commitments), Forbes Masson (Mr Foote’s Other Leg), Craig Stein (Wicked) and Gabby Wong (Volpone).

In Marlowe’s 1592 tragedy, Faustus makes a pact with the Devil, selling his soul in return for the ability to perform absolutely anything he pleases with the power of black magic. This fatal decision catapults him into an intoxicating world of celebrity, as he becomes a world-renowned conjuror, international heartthrob and friend of the rich, famous and powerful. But what is the cost of his insatiable thirst for wealth and fame?
