Imagine This - New London Theatre

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

A NEW musical set in Poland during World War II, Imagine This, will receive its West End premiere at the New London Theatre where it opens on November 19, 2008 (previews from November 4).

Imagine This focuses on a group of actors in the Warsaw Ghetto who stage plays to inspire hope and optimism within their community. However, with rumours of the Final Solution in the air, their play merges with the reality they are trying to escape, and a dramatic love story unfolds.

Imagine This, which premiered at the Theatre Royal Plymouth last summer where it was directed by Timothy Sheader, has book and lyrics by Glenn Berenbeim and David Goldsmith, and a score by Shuki Levy.

Sheader, who this year began his first season as Artistic Director of the Open Air theatre, Regent’s Park, returns to direct the West End production, which will be choreographed by Liam Steel.

Designed by Eugene Lee, Imagine This has costumes by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting design by Tim Mitchell, orchestrations by Chris Walker and musical supervision by Phil Bateman.

The Plymouth cast included Stephen Ashfield, Peter Polycarpou, Gina Beck and Annette McLaughlin although it’s not yet known if they will be reprising their roles in the West End production.

The New London Theatre has been dark since the premature closure of Trevor Nunn’s musical adaptation of Gone with the Wind on June 14, 2008.
