Slava's Snowshow - New Wimbledon Theatre

Slava's Snowshow

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

THE INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed Slava’s Snowshow will visit New Wimbledon Theatre – from October 3 to October 7, 2006 – as part of a three-month regional tour.

Russian-born Slava Polunin, “the world’s most famous clown”, first brought his theatre to England in 1988 – to Hackney Empire where he became an overnight success. Ten years later and following a sell-out run at the Old Vic in 1997, Slava’s Snowshow won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment.

The show was last seen in London in 2004 – at Hackney Empire – in a star-studded gala that marked the reopening of the theatre. It is now touring the world and has been performed in more than 25 countries, to more than 1 million spectators.

Polunin has also toured North America with Cirque du Soleil’s production of Alegria which still features excerpts from Slava’s Snowshow. While the show itself is currently playing in New York where it premiered in September 2004. A US tour is being planned.

Described as “an unmistakably unique, unmissable comedy masterpiece”, Slava’s Snowshow sees Slava and his ensemble of clowns using water, cobwebs, bubbles and dry ice to dazzling effect.

And the whole culminates in a spectacular snowstorm “of sparkling snowflakes” that engulfs the audience. It’s a show that is suitable for the whole family.

The tour which begins in Milton Keynes on September 30, 2006, continues to London, Stoke-on-Trent, Glasgow, Manchester, Brighton, Woking and Birmingham, before concluding in Bath on November 25, 2006.
