The Last Days of Judas Iscariot - casting complete

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

GAWN Grainger, Douglas Henshall, Susan Lynch and Joseph Mawle will be joined by LAByrinth Theatre Company member Ron Cephas Jones in the European premiere of Stephen Adly Guirgis’ The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, which opens at the Almeida Theatre on April 3, 2008 (previews from March 28).

The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is described as a time-bending, serio-comic drama in an imagined world between Heaven and Hell that re-examines the plight and fate of The New Testament’s most infamous sinner. In a trial of “God and the Kingdom of Heaven and Earth versus Judas Iscariot”, figures ranging from Pontius Pilate to Sigmund Freud are called to testify.

Guirgis’ distinct and utterly contemporary voice uses the violent, chaotic energy of modern America, and particularly of New York, to explore timeless questions of free will and responsibility, of faith and fate.

Rupert Goold will direct a cast that also includes Shane Attwooll (Butch Honeywell), Amanda Boxer (Henrietta Iscariot), Josh Cohen (Sigmund Freud/Saint Thomas), Dona Croll (Gloria/Mother Theresa), Edward Hogg (Jesus of Nazareth), Corey Johnson (Judge/Soldier), Mark Lockyer (Yusef El-Fayoumy), John MacMillan (Bailiff/Simon the Zealot), Poppy Miller (Loretta/Mary Magdalene/Sister Glenna) and Jessika Williams (Saint Monica).
