Tim Curry withdraws from Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead

Tim Curry in Monty Python's Spamalot

Story by Jack Foley

TIM Curry has been forced to withdraw from Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead.

The production is due to open at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in June but according to an official statement Curry will no longer take part.

The reason is because the actor is suffering from an “on-going chest infection and repeated asthma attacks”.

Curry, who is best known for roles in The Rocky Horror Picture Show on screen and Spamalot (pictured) in the West End, had been playing the Player opposite Samuel Barnett and Jamie Parker in the title roles.

The show has been at the Chichester Festival prior to its West End transfer, but a statement from Chichester’s Executive Director Alan Finch confirmed: “For the moment, the production will continue with the role of the Player taken by Curry’s understudy, Chris Andrew Mellon, while we consider our longer-term options.”
