For the first time in the awards’ history the show will also feature live performances from Cheap Trick and Alter Bridge.

Six reader voted honours are now up for grabs – to cast your vote go to or pick up a copy of the new issue of Classic Rock, on sale 18 August 18.

Leading the charge with two nominations apiece are four heavyweights of the rock world – AC/DC, Rage Against The Machine, KISS and Slash who all lock (devil) horns in the category of Band Of The Year, along with Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and the Jeff Beck Band.

AC/DC are also nominated for Reissue Of The Year, for their Backtracks box set – the super deluxe version even featuring a working guitar amplifier – fighting it out alongside The Rolling Stones, whose reissue of Exile On Main Street went in at No. 1 on release in May, plus Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, David Bowie, Nazareth, King Crimson and Rhino Records’ Where The Action Is: LA Nuggets 1965-1968.

Rage Against The Machine go head to head with Download Festival (which they headlined in June), the Classic Rock-sponsored High Voltage, reunions for Mott The Hoople and The Stooges and Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing going Top 10, for the honour of Event Of The Year.

And for their triumphant chart battle to reach the No. 1 spot in December 2009 with Killing In The Name, plus the free show they put on in London’s Finsbury Park as a reward for the fans who bought the single.

Former Guns ‘N’ Roses guitarist Slash and outrageous New York rockers KISS contest the honour of Best Album, for respective albums Slash and Sonic Boom, both critically acclaimed upon release.

A who’s who of classic rock makes up the full nominations for this category with Cheap Trick, Bigelf, Wolfmother, Pearl Jam, Iron Maiden, Alice in Chains, Lynyrd Skynrd, Gaslight Anthem, The Scorpions, Europe, Ratt, Foreigner, Black Crowes and Steve Hackett all hoping to take home Best Album come November 10.

The nominations for Best New Band see a range of emerging talent facing off in this category.

The Union, a brand new classic rock act fronted by former Thunder guitarist Luke Morley and ex-Winterville vocalist / guitarist Peter Shoulder, are up against Roadrunner Records’ Las Vegas boys Taking Dawn, Finnish hair-metallers Reckless Love, Earache newcomers White Wizzard and the blues influenced New Yorkers Alberta Cross.

DVD/Film of the Year sees the ladies get a look in, with The Runaways – featuring Twilight’s Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning – competing against Oil City Confidential, Julian Temple’s Dr Feelgood doco, Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage, Saxon: Heavy Metal Thunder and The Doors’ When You’re Strange, the new documentary narrated by Johnny Depp which featured at the Sundance and Berlin film festivals among others earlier in the year.
