Karl Urban to reunite with JJ Abrams for Human TV pilot

KARL Urban is to reunite with his Star Trek director JJ Abrams for new TV pilot Human.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor has landed the lead role in the high-concept show, which is described as an action-packed buddy-cop show set in the near future when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.

Urban will play John Kennex, a respected police officer who has shut down emotionally after a tragic mission that claimed the lives of nine of his fellow elite officers and left him critically injured.

Michael Ealy has already been cast as Kennex’s android partner Dorian, while the pilot also boasts Lili Taylor as the police captain, Minka Kelly (of Friday Night Lights fame), Mackenzie Crook and Michael Irby.

Urban is so far more familiar for hs film work and, if picked up to series, Human would mark his first series regular role in the US.

His other film credits include The Bourne Supremacy, Chronicles of Riddick, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Dredd.

He next appears in Riddick, which is due in September.
