Story by Jack Foley
ROMOLA Garai (pictured) and Boardwalk Empire‘s Charlie Cox will head the cast of new BBC 2 drama Legacy.
They will be joined by Sherlock‘s Andrew Scott, BAFTA-winner Simon Russell Beale (The Hollow Crown) and Christian McKay (Tinker Taylor Solider Spy) in the Cold War thriller from writer Paula Milne (The Politician’s Husband).
The one-off film is based on Alan Judd’s 2001 novel of the same name and tells the story of a young spy named Charles Thoroughgood (to be played by Cox), who discovers the disturbing truth about his father’s complex past.
Garai will play a character named Anna and Scott will play Soviet diplomat Victor Koslov.
Olivia Grant (Strike Back) and Tessa Peake Jones (Marchlands) will also appear in the 90-minute drama, which will air later this year as part of BBC Two’s Cold War moment, which also includes a series of factual commissions.
Commenting on what to expect, Milne said: “Legacy falls well within the genre of the British spy thriller but has an extraordinary personal twist. For what is espionage if not betrayal at the most fundamental level of human interactions? When that occurs within a family… it’s dynamite!”
Pete Travis, who most recently directed the latest big screen version of Dredd will direct.
