Kylie Minogue to head Hey Diddly Dee for Sky's Playhouse Presents
Story by Jack Foley
KYLIE Minogue is to make a return to acting for a new one-off drama called Hey Diddly Dee.
The play, written and directed by actor Marc Warren, is described as a “dark comedy drama about drama”.
Its synopsis reads: “For every star that is born…one has to die. When the star of the show suffers a tragic accident who is to blame? The understudy? A faulty trap door? Or the theatre’s lucky cat?”
Appearing alongside Minogue will be Mathew Horne, Peter Serafinowicz, David Harewood, Paul Kaye and Lee Boardman.
The episode is due to air on March 14, 2013 as part of Sky’s new Playhouse Presents series on Sky Arts 1 HD.
Minogue, who shot to fame playing Charlene in Australian soap opera Neighbours, said: “When the script was sent to me, I read it and knew instinctively I wanted to be part of this project.
“In Hey Diddly Dee, Marc has created a beautiful and quirky story. I have also enjoyed many of the Playhouse Presents… series and love that they have created a platform for this type of work.”
Warren himself added: “Writing and directing for Playhouse Presents… has been one of the most magical experiences of my career. To give myself the best chance I called in every favour to surround myself with a dream cast and an incredible crew. And then by some miracle, Kylie appeared, and the fate of our film was sealed.”
Other stars to appear in the new season include Anna Friel, Matt Smith, David Harewood, Johnny Vegas and Vanessa Redgrave, while The Wire and Prometheus star Idris Elba will make his directorial debut.
